Getting involved with a hiking organization in Austin is a great way to meet like minded people. There are a number of different organizations. Find the one that is right for you. On this page you will find organizations as well as hiking, geocaching, and orienteering clubs.
Austin Orienteering Club (AOC)The Austin Orienteering Club (AOC) is a non-profit organization committed to promote the sport of orienteering in central Texas. AOC is also a member of the United States Orienteering Federation (USOF) which is recognized by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and the US Olympic Committee as the National Governing Body for orienteering in the United States.
Austin Parks FoundationThe Austin Parks Foundation works with over 40 community groups to adopt and improve parks in the Austin area. We jointly manage the adopt-a-park program with the City parks department and many of our groups are actively working on trail development and improvements including Bull Creek, Pease Park/Shoal Creek, Country Club Creek, Walnut Creek, Walnut Bluffs, Barton Creek Greenbelt (Greenbelt Guardians), Copperfield Nature Trails, Red Bud Isle, Friends of Mayfield preserve. We provide technical assistance, a fundraising umbrella, a grants program (we've granted over $200,000 to 26 projects in 2008 alone) and tools lending. Central Texas Trail TamersWe are a group of ready volunteers from the general public of Central Texas and beyond who donate our time and effort to build and maintain hike & bike trails, including ADA accessible trails.
Colorado River WalkersThe Colorado River Walkers, AVA-077, TX-024, were founded in 1981 in Austin, Texas. The club sponsors Volkssport events in and around Central Texas. The Colorado River Walkers meet on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 PM to socialize and conduct club business.
Oak Hill Trails AssociationWe are the Oak Hill Trails Association (OHTA), an association of residents of the Oak Hill area on the southwest flank of Austin, Texas. OHTA was formed in March 2007 to nurture and provide neighborhood preferences for pedestrian hike and bike trails in the Oak Hill area.
Austin Metro Trails and GreenwaysAustin Metro Trails and Greenways (AMTG) is a non-profit community organization dedicated to the vision of an Austin interconnected by trails and greenways, where any front door in the city is just a ten minute walk from the trail.
Austin Trails Network Google GroupThe purpose of this group is to share info, including meeting notes, plans, pictures and share info between the members as we work to develop priorities, plans and a marketing/funding effort for a comprehensive trails plan for the Austin area.
